March 2016

14th March Day of Pi

Yesterday was 14th March. on a DD.MM format yesterday’s date is written as 3.14. There lies the connection with Pi. The Pi day as it is called is a celebration of this mathematical constant which  is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. The value of Pi is 3.1415…… apparently you can compute to almost a trillion decimal points.

It has been represented by the Greek letter “π“. Popularly known as the transcendental number  meaning , it is not a root of a non-zero polynomial equation with rational coefficients. Ok its getting into rocket science realm. How this mathematical constant evolved should be seen in these video and how over tens of thousands of years several curious human mind went after solving this to the greatest decimal and the work is still on.

Keep Running

Our first tryst with Marathon started today at the RFUM 5k run at Cubbon Park, Bangalore. Must say we have our running shoes ready. What a turn out (Bangalore : 5.45 am more than 600 people registered and more lining up), what a great environment, what energy and the early morning Zumba had everyone swinging.

Pheidippides a greek “human courier” ran 40 km from the battlefields to Athens announcing Greek victory at the “Battle of Marathon”. After he announced the victory he fell down and died. Statue of Pheidippides along the Marathon Road.jpg

There is an Indian angle to Marathons.

The oldest marathon runner is Fauja Singh an Indian Origin British National who at the age of 93 finished marathon in 6 hrs and 54 minutes. The great athlete talks to god while running.

Budhia Singh from Orissa who did a marathon in 7 hrs and 2 minutes and was recorded as the youngest marathoner.

Let me leave you with this great marathon quote:

It’s Women’s Day

It is that special day of the year where we celebrate Women. They are so much part of our life as Mom, Sister, Friend, Wife, Daughter, Colleague and mythologically speaking the all powerful Goddess.

Womens Day Greting

Let me share some very interesting facts about women today which you may not know.

  1. Women do speak more than men. But all the story of them talking too much is not fully true. Men speak approx 15,700 words a day and Women speak approx 16,200 words a day.
  2. Did you know that in Russia there are 10 million more women than men!
  3.  A woman’s heart beats faster than a man’s. A male’s heart rate is between 70-72 bpm and the average female’s heart rate is  between 78 – 82 bpm.
  4. Women blink 19 times per minute whereas men blink only 11 times per minute.

Men do beat the women on a key count 🙂 – Men lie 6 times a day, twice as much as Women.

This week at Citrusventures we are proud to partner with applied genetics to bring “RFUM 2016”  (Run for you and Me ) a forum to promote life, wellness and health through Women. Register now and join us on the 13th of this month.

We will also be running some quiz events trhough the week for all Women on cyberspace. The highest score and fastest answers will get an amazing watch as a special prize.
